RELEASE DATE AND ARTWORK REVEALED FOR NEW SINGLE ‘TO THE BITTER END’

Forlorn Hope are pleased to announce that their new single ‘To the Bitter End’, recently recorded at Whitewood Studios, Liverpool, will be released on February 12th 2021.

This standalone single represents the band’s first foray into the vast and brutal history of the First World War, telling the story of the 1916 defence of Frankfurt Trench; when a small band of British soldiers were trapped behind enemy lines on the final day of the Battle of the Somme and managed to hold out for eight days in a captured German trench. You can find out more about the story here.

The stunning cover artwork for ‘To the Bitter End’ is by Mitchell Nolte, the man behind all of Forlorn Hope’s artwork to date.

The band will soon be releasing details of their new range of ‘To the Bitter End’ merchandise and opening pre-orders on the official webstore. You can stay up to date by following this link.

Forlorn Hope Return to the Studio in November!

This coming November, Forlorn Hope return to Whitewood Studios once more. The band will be recording two brand new singles, set for release in 2021, which tackle new and exciting periods of history not yet touched upon by the band.

Singer and rhythm guitarist, Chris Simpson, has this to say about the upcoming recordings:

"We’re diving into new areas of history with both and we’re really excited about them. The first is ‘To the Bitter End’, which some of our fans will have already heard us play live (we debuted it at Quest Fest last year). It’s our first attempt to tackle the colossal subject that is the First World War. The song tells the story of a handful of British soldiers who, on the final day of the Battle of the Somme, were cut off and trapped in a German second line trench. Despite freezing conditions, an almost total lack of supplies and being under constant attack from all sides, they managed to hold the trench for eight days before they were finally overrun. It’s an incredible chapter in the history of the War, but one which is largely unknown, which is why we’re also producing an audio-history to accompany the CD, that will tell the whole story in all its astonishing detail. Writing this was the biggest research project I’ve undertaken for the band so far. If you enjoyed the historical background notes that accompanied our debut album, this audio-history will take things to a whole new level.

We’re keeping the details of the second single quiet for now, but I will say that from a lyrical perspective it’s arguably our most ambitious song to date. We’ve crammed two hundred years of history and some big conceptual issues into a five-minute song. It’s Forlorn Hope through and through, but at the same time it’s like nothing you’ve heard from us yet!

Once these are recorded, we’ll be staggering their release over the following months. We’ll have brand new, dedicated merch for both singles and plenty of related content coming through on our website and social media channels, so there’s a lot for our fans to be excited about.
"

Stay tuned for all the latest updates on the new singles, as well as all other things Forlorn Hope!

Warhorns Postponed until 2021 - Forlorn Hope Re-Booked

This year's Warhorns Festival, previously scheduled for September in Selby, Yorkshire, has been postponed to 2-4 September 2021 due to COVID-19.

Forlorn Hope were booked to play this year's festival and have been re-booked to play the rescheduled event next year.

You can find the event page for the festival here.

The band released the following statement on their social media:

"As many of your will doubtless have heard already, the sad but ultimately sensible decision has been taken to postpone this year's Warhorns Festival to 2021. We are very pleased to confirm that we have been re-booked and will be there for some belated battle-metal antics next September.

Big shout out to Glyn and the whole team for their hard work and dedication in keeping this amazing event going.

Times are tough and may still be for a while, but the thought of how joyous 2021 will be is really keeping our spirits up.

Stay strong, bastards"

Helly Festival Postponed Until 2021

Forlorn Hope were scheduled to headline Helly Fest on the Isle of Wight this July, as part of a planned Southern tour which will now longer go ahead. Due to the ongoing global health crisis the festival organisers have had to postpone the event. This has been done to co-operate with government safety guidelines and to protect everyone who would have been in attendance, whether they be staff, the bands or the fans. The band are disappointed that the tour will not go ahead but fully support the decision made by the festival organisers.

Whilst Helly will not take place in 2020, the organisers are looking to bring it to 2021 instead. The band are hoping to return to the festival in ir's future iteratons and will keep everyone updated via this website if any dates are arranged. To those who have already bought tickets for the event, the festival organisers are willing to either fully refund your ticket or roll it over to next year's festival.

During this crisis, the safety of everybody is of paramount importance and, realistically, there is a ongoing possibility of more shows having to be cancelled. Whilst the band hope this does not come to pass, they will do their best to keep you updated at this situation develops and moves forward.

Forlorn Hope's Website Launches New History Section!

Forlorn Hope are thrilled to announce the launch of a new History section on their official website. This new section will include condensed versions of the notes that accompany each of the band's releases, as well as a few bonus facts or famous quotations. These notes are deeply researched and are designed to give additional historical context to the subjects of the band's music, whether that be a specific battle, a particular figure or a broader overview of events. The band hope that this new addition will help their fans to get more out of the music and encourage them to delve even further into the history behind the music!

These notes are carefully condensed versions of notes contained in the band's physical releases. If you would like to read the full version of these notes, as well as the accompaanying bibliography, they can be found alongside the band's album 'Over the Hills', which is purchasable from our store here.  Historical notes from future releases will work in much the same way.

Please note that this new section is intended to provide additional historical context to the band's music and should not be taken as detailed or definitive accounts of any of its subject matter. Whilst the band researches it's subjects extensively, this section is in no way an academic or exhaustive resource and the band would encourage their fans to seek out further reading if they wish to learn more about any of the subjects discussed.
