The Defence of the Frankfurt Trench, Redan Ridge, Battle of the Somme
18-11-1916 - 25-11,-1916

Lyrics

1916, the twilight of the Somme
For four months and counting this hell rages on
A morning assault, the British fall back
But between German trenches a handful are trapped

One hundred and thirty behind the German lines
Lonsdales and Glasgow men, they hold on through the night
On this frozen battlefield, cut off and under siege
They ll hold their position and wait for relief

To the bitter end
We will all defend
Upon the Redan
To the final man

In a foreign field
We will never yield
To the end
We die where we stand

Germans to the front of them, Germans to the rear
Holding out for rescue but no rescuers appear
Supplies and ammo running low, attacks come thick and fast
Reject their ultimatum, they will fight them to the last

Attack! Attack! Hold your ground and drive them back
Defend! Defend! Fight them to the bitter end
Regroup! Regroup! They are many, we are few
Defy! Defy! We are not afraid to die

After 8 days of hell, the fateful day comes
The final defenders at last overrun
Of the force that once was, only fifteen on their feet
Is this what held up my brigade for a week?
