The band released this statement on social media -

“We are immensely sorry to announce that we have had to withdraw from Warhorns Festival 2022.

Due to entirely unforeseen personal reasons, our stand-in drummer is no longer able to play this show. These reasons are not ours to disclose, but we entirely understand and support their decision.

Unfortunately, finding another stand-in was not possible, so we have had to postpone our return to the stage for the time being.

We can only apologise for any disappointment caused, and would like to thank Glyn and the Warhorns team for the opportunity and for their understanding.

We will be taking a step back to regroup and resume our search for a permanent drummer. Rest assured, this is only a delay; once our ranks are once again full, we will return to the fray.”
Forlorn Hopetag:forlornhope.uk,2005:Post/69177482022-03-09T12:30:00+00:002022-03-09T12:40:02+00:00DANNY KELLY LEAVES FORLORN HOPE
Drummer and founder member of Forlorn Hope, Danny Kelly, has announced that he will be leaving the band with immediate effect.

Danny released this statement on the band’s social media channels:

“Unfortunately, I have decided to bring my time in Forlorn Hope to a close. It wasn't an easy decision but it was the best for everyone. I don't believe I can give the level of commitment the band needs to push on, and that would be unfair on the rest of the band if I stayed. I've loved the time in the band, all the gigs, recordings and traveling. I won't be quitting drums but I'll be taking some time away from it, unlike Forlorn Hope who I know won't miss a step and push on even further. I'm sure you'll still see me about at Forlorn Hope gigs from time to time. I may be leaving but I won't stop supporting them. Thank you to everyone who came to the gigs and made them some of the best I've ever been a part of.

- Danny Kelly”

The remaining members of Forlorn Hope released their own statement at the same time:

“While we fully understand and support Danny’s decision, it will be very hard for the rest of us to see him go. Way back in 2017 when we were still mucking about playing covers, it was Danny who suggested that we try doing something original. Forlorn Hope may never have even got off the ground if it hadn’t been for Danny.

From Day 1, Danny has been an absolute cornerstone of the band. We would all like to thank him for his years of hard work, exceptional musicianship, the countless miles he drove to get us to gigs, and for being a true friend. It won’t be the same without you, mate, and we wish you the best of luck in this new chapter of your life.

We’d like to take this opportunity to reassure you that Forlorn Hope will not be going anywhere. We will be advertising for a new drummer in due course, and we’re already looking forward to coming through this transitional period and embarking upon the next chapter of our story.

The band released this statement on social media:

“‘‘Redcoat’ is the story of the British soldier in the 18th & 19th centuries. This standalone single will take you on an epic journey through history, from the great power struggles of the European monarchies, through the Age of Revolution, to the carving out of the largest empire the world has ever seen. Narratively, it is our most ambitious project yet.

History lovers will be pleased to hear that this release will also be accompanied by a companion audiohistory; a one-hour exploration of redcoats’ experiences of battle, from Blenheim to Rorke’s Drift, through the words of the men who were there.

We’ll be sharing details of our merch bundles and our pre-order raffle in the next few days, ahead of pre-orders opening on Friday, and over the coming weeks we’ll be releasing previews, some epic history content, and more besides. The band published this statement on social media:

"As you may remember, our forthcoming standalone single 'Redcoat' was originally due for release this autumn. Sadly, due to delays in the production of the audiohistory and merch designs, it has not been possible for us to keep to this original release window.

We are committed to delivering the best possible final product to you, and having put so much work into making this new release as good as it can be, we do not want to rush it out at a time when it might pass under a lot of people's radar.

We have therefore taken the decision to push the release of 'Redcoat' back to February next year. While we know some of you will be disappointed by this news, we are confident that this is the right decision and that when February finally comes around you will have a release that was well worth the wait.

The final release will include a whole new 'Redcoat' merch range, including perhaps our most lavish bundle yet, a shiny new lyric video from the talented Andy Pilkington at Very Metal Art, and a whole load of the historical supporting content you love.

In the meantime, we will not be sitting idle. We will shortly have news of a brand spanking new merch item that will be available to pre-order very soon, and we will be putting out some 'Redcoat'-related historical content over the winter months.

If you want to make a contribution to help us make 'Redcoat' as good as it can be, you can leave us a tip at forlornhope.uk (just scroll down to the bottom of any page on the site) or make a purchase from our official webstore.

Thank you all so much for your ongoing support

The band released this statement on social media -

“We are delighted to announce the details of the next chapter in the Forlorn Hope discography.

Following on from the success of ‘To the Bitter End’, this Autumn will see the release of our second standalone single, ‘Redcoat’; the story of the British soldier in the 18th and 19th centuries.

From Badajoz to Balaklava, Cawnpore to Culloden, Ramillies to Rorke’s Drift, ‘Redcoat’ will take you on a journey through the many lives of these ordinary men who fought and died on every continent except Antarctica during these two bloodsoaked centuries, while attempting to address the colossal, complex and controversial legacy that they left behind.

‘Redcoat’ is arguably our most ambitious song to date; distilling nearly 200 years of history into a five minute song was a massive challenge, and represented an entirely new approach to history for us, but we are confident that it ranks alongside our best work.

Once again we have teamed up with the fantastic Mitchell Nolte to create the cover for this single. The artwork is finished and we are pleased to say that Mitchell has outdone himself. We will reveal the cover in due course.

As with our last standalone single, we will be releasing a detailed audiohistory to accompany ‘Redcoat’ that will allow you to dive deeper into the real stories behind the song.

This release will also include our most lavish merch bundle to date, for those of you eager to expand your Forlorn Hope collections.

Right now, we are in the midst of graphic design work, putting together our merch designs and getting ready to start recording the audiohistory. There is a lot of work still to do before we have a full release ready to launch, but we will have plenty of updates for you over the coming weeks and hopefully soon a definitive release date.

As with any new release, this will be an expensive undertaking that is likely to stretch our limited resources to their limit. If you’d like to help us make ‘Redcoat’ happen, please make a purchase through our official webstore, or use the “Leave a tip” button at the bottom of any page on our website to make a donation to the cause.

Forlorn Hope are pleased to announce that their new single ‘To the Bitter End’, recently recorded at Whitewood Studios, Liverpool, will be released on February 12th 2021.

This standalone single represents the band’s first foray into the vast and brutal history of the First World War, telling the story of the 1916 defence of Frankfurt Trench; when a small band of British soldiers were trapped behind enemy lines on the final day of the Battle of the Somme and managed to hold out for eight days in a captured German trench. The band will be recording two brand new singles, set for release in 2021, which tackle new and exciting periods of history not yet touched upon by the band.

Singer and rhythm guitarist, Chris Simpson, has this to say about the upcoming recordings:

"We’re diving into new areas of history with both and we’re really excited about them. The first is ‘To the Bitter End’, which some of our fans will have already heard us play live (we debuted it at Quest Fest last year). It’s our first attempt to tackle the colossal subject that is the First World War. The song tells the story of a handful of British soldiers who, on the final day of the Battle of the Somme, were cut off and trapped in a German second line trench. Despite freezing conditions, an almost total lack of supplies and being under constant attack from all sides, they managed to hold the trench for eight days before they were finally overrun. It’s an incredible chapter in the history of the War, but one which is largely unknown, which is why we’re also producing an audio-history to accompany the CD, that will tell the whole story in all its astonishing detail. Writing this was the biggest research project I’ve undertaken for the band so far. If you enjoyed the historical background notes that accompanied our debut album, this audio-history will take things to a whole new level.

We’re keeping the details of the second single quiet for now, but I will say that from a lyrical perspective it’s arguably our most ambitious song to date. We’ve crammed two hundred years of history and some big conceptual issues into a five-minute song. It’s Forlorn Hope through and through, but at the same time it’s like nothing you’ve heard from us yet!

Once these are recorded, we’ll be staggering their release over the following months. We’ll have brand new, dedicated merch for both singles and plenty of related content coming through on our website and social media channels, so there’s a lot for our fans to be excited about."

Stay tuned for all the latest updates on the new singles, as well as all other things Forlorn Hope!
Forlorn Hopetag:forlornhope.uk,2005:Post/63376132020-06-01T12:00:00+01:002020-10-15T06:20:02+01:00June Sale Starts Now - 25% Off Everything!

Due to the ongoing global health crisis the festival organisers have had to postpone the event. This has been done to co-operate with government safety guidelines and to protect everyone who would have been in attendance, whether they be staff, the bands or the fans. The band are disappointed that the tour will not go ahead but fully support the decision made by the festival organisers.

Whilst Helly will not take place in 2020, the organisers are looking to bring it to 2021 instead. The band are hoping to return to the festival in ir's future iteratons and will keep everyone updated via this website if any dates are arranged. To those who have already bought tickets for the event, the festival organisers are willing to either fully refund your ticket or roll it over to next year's festival.

During this crisis, the safety of everybody is of paramount importance and, realistically, there is a ongoing possibility of more shows having to be cancelled. Whilst the band hope this does not come to pass, they will do their best to keep you updated at this situation develops and moves forward.
Forlorn Hopetag:forlornhope.uk,2005:Post/63002892020-05-01T12:00:00+01:002020-12-04T10:52:25+00:00Forlorn Hope's Website Launches New History Section!
Forlorn Hope are thrilled to announce the launch of a new History section on their official website. The band have issued the following statement:

"We are truly sad to announce that our upcoming shows in Edinburgh on 27 March and Lancaster on 4 April are hereby postponed until further notice in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Cancelling live shows is not something we do lightly, especially at such short notice, but having considered the latest government advice and discussed the situation with the other bands involved, we are confident that this is the most responsible course of action.

This will be a significant financial setback for us, but our health and yours must be our top priority. If we want things to return to normal sooner rather than later, we have to make an effort not to be part of the problem, and as a band we think that this is the most valuable contribution we can make.

We're sorry for any inconvenience and disappointment that this may cause, but we believe that this is the right decision.

We'd like to give a massive salute to By Your Leave, Nocturne Wulf, We Make Mammoths and Wytch Hazel for making the difficult call to postpone. Can't wait to make a glorious return to the stage with all of you guys when things have returned to normal.

Our hearts go out to The Pub, Opium - Alternative Club & Bar and all other small venues struggling to stay afloat in the current crisis. We sincerely hope that the government steps up to give business like these the support that they need.

As far as our other scheduled gigs are concerned, the situation is moving so fast that we have no idea where we'll all be in a week's time, let alone in a few months, so we're not in a position to make any final decisions to proceed or postpone. We will be monitoring the situation closely and will confirm the status of these events nearer to the time.

In the meantime, we'll do our best to bring you as much isolation-busting content as we can.

Look after each other, bastards. Stay safe and stay sensible.
2019 was a truly incredible year for us. The release of 'Over the Hills' was everything we hoped for and more and the response to the album left us truly humbled. On top of that were some of the best gigs we've ever played - the Merseyside M2TM final, Power Metal Quest Fest and Ragnarok Metal Fest to name just a few highlights - not to mention more than doubling our online following.

It'd be nonsense to suggest that we achieved all this on our own though, and there are an awful lot of people to whom we owe our gratitude; far too many to name individually, so we hope that this will suffice -

To the amazing bands with whom we've played, laughed and forged new friendships; thank you.

To the venues and promoters who gave us the time of day and so much more besides; thank you.

To the reviewers and other media professionals who used your platform to give us another push up the ladder; thank you.

To the hard-working, talented, creative professionals who worked with us to make 'Over the Hills' the incredible complete package that it turned out to be; thank you.

To our friends and families for supporting us through rough and smooth; thank you.

And most importantly of all, to every single one of you beautiful, mad, nerdy, incredible fans who listened, liked, shared, bought, banged your heads, sang along and kept us going with your ceaseless encouragement and enthusiasm; thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

‘Over the Hills’ is a concept piece about the Peninsular War of 1807-1814; the bloody and protracted conflict between the armies of Napoleonic France and the Allied powers of Britain, Spain and Portugal, which raged across the Iberian Peninsula in the early years of the 19th Century. The album does not seek to tell the whole story of the conflict. Rather, this is a collection of stories of horror and heroism from this fascinating period in history, all told through the medium of intense, dramatic and irresistibly catchy heavy metal.

Recorded at Whitewood Recording Studios Liverpool across March 2019 and mixed and mastered by Daniel Woodward across April, the album will feature re-recorded versions of all of the tracks on the band's demo EP as well as several live favourites and material previously unheard by the public.

The stunning cover artwork is by the supremely talented friend Mitchell Nolte, who was also responsible for the artwork on the band's demo EP and shirts. The band are very pleased to continue to work with Mitchell and think you’ll agree that he really has outdone himself on this project.
